The process presented as part of the Google Data Analytics Certificate is one that will be valuable to you as you keep moving forward in your career:

Ask: Business Challenge/Objective/Question

Prepare: Data generation, collection, storage, and data management

Process: Data cleaning/data integrity

Analyze: Data exploration, visualization, and analysis

Share: Communicating and interpreting results 

Act:  Putting your insights to work to solve the problem

Essential aspect of analytical skills:

Curiosity: a desire to know more about something, asking the right questions

Understanding context: understanding where information fits into the “big picture”

Having a technical mindset: breaking big things into smaller steps

Data design: thinking about how to organize data and information

Data strategy: thinking about the people, processes, and tools used in data analysis

The five key aspects to analytical thinking.

- visualization -- seeing the data to identify the pattern 

- strategizing -- method to analyze the data 

- problem-oriented -- thinking way to solve the problem by using data (survey consumer's satisfaction on particular products to understand the problem) 

- correlation -- data vs outcomes; correlation not equal to causation 

- big-picture thinking and detail-oriented thinking -- looking at complete puzzle and small puzzle to relate with the big picture

Gap analysis; examine and evaluate how a process works currently in order to get where you want to be in the future.

Data life cycle

Plan: Decide what kind of data is needed, how it will be managed, and who will be responsible for it.

Capture: Collect or bring in data from a variety of different sources.

Manage: Care for and maintain the data. This includes determining how and where it is stored and the tools used to do so.

Analyze: Use the data to solve problems, make decisions, and support business goals.

Archive: Keep relevant data stored for long-term and future reference.

Destroy: Remove data from storage and delete any shared copies of the data.
