Odd ratio - อัตราส่วนของความต่าง

เนื่องจากอ่านบทความวิชาการต่างประเทศแล้วไม่เข้าใจในค่าทางสถิติบางตัวก็เลยมานั่งค้นข้อมูลใน อ.อากู๋ ซึ่งก็ตกมาเป็น paper ตัวนี้ เป็นบทความสั้น ๆ และง่ายต่อการทำความเข้าใจ

Odd ratio - เป็นอัตราส่วนที่บ่งบอกถึงความสัมพันธ์ของปัจจัย (exposure) ที่คาดว่าน่าจะส่งผลต่อผลลัพธ์ที่เราต้องการจะศึกษา (outcome) ซึ่งค่าอัตราส่วนต่าง ๆ สามารถคำนวนและแปลผล ได้ดังต่อไปนี้

Odd ratio
1.Compare the relative odds of the occurrence of the outcome of interest (disease/disorder)by given the exposure to the variable of interest (health characteristic/behaviors)
2.determine the risk factor whether it affects the out come

Calculation for the OR:
OR = (expose -outcome1/non-expose-outcome1)orange line/(expose-outcome2/non-expose-outcome2)green line

Looking at the OR
OR = 1; Exposure does not affect odds  of out come
OR > 1; Exposure associated with higher odds of outcome
OR< 1; Exposure associated with lower odds of outcome

Confidence intervals
1.Telling us the precision of OR
2.Large CI - low level of precision of the OR
3. Small CI - higher precision of the OR
4. If the IC spanning over OR=0 -- inappropriate to interpret the OR, (OR = 0 mean no effect)
