Note for: Active versus passive reading: how to read scientific papers?

Doi: 10.1093/nsr/nwaa130

This article is good for most of us who basically work in an academic-related area.

The questions to ask yourself:

  1. What is the research question? Why do they want to do it?

  2. If it is my work, what kind of experiment would I do to answer the question?

  3. What kind of data do I need to support the answer to this question.

  4. Comparing between theirs and our conclusion - what are the differences?

The author’s lab website also provides very good materials on research planning as well as effective learning strategy in the scientific area.
